New Situations

"Get up, get up!" an urgent voice shouted at 4:47 this morning, "We have to leave! We have to go now!"

Oh no. We had slept through the alarm! Prayer at the Bible school was starting today, and it was starting in 13 minutes! I had to stop to put on sandals, but told my roommate (for whom prayer attendance is mandatory) to go on ahead. Suddenly, standing in the pitch dark, I realized I didn't know the way.

The night guard (I'm assuming?) ended up escorting me to the church, leading me down the hill by a small flashlight. So this is an adventure, I thought, running down the uneven path after the guard. It turned out to be a happy ending though, as we both arrived alive and in good time.

Being a part of prayer sessions here is amazing. On Tuesday I joined a women's fellowship among the mums at the Baby House, but during the individual prayer time just stopped and listened to the eloquent, fervent  prayers around me. When I pray, I have to stop and think between sentences. These sisters didn't seem to need to!

Besides prayer groups, the other new area I'm involved with is the world religions class I'm auditing. The professor, says Mr. Guthrie, is originally from an Islamic background himself, so the class will be getting first-hand information!

The final new challenge I shall soon be finding myself hurled into is taking over teaching the preschool class at the Baby House! Jaja Rita is going away for 10 days, leaving me (and God) with about six rambunctious toddlers who need to keep learning their colours and numbers. The thing I've loved about being in Africa so far (among a long list of others) is that every single day has presented a new opportunity to stretch. To be challenged. To try something scary.

To start praying!

And that's the thing to remember...
